Speeds and Feeds Override Are Included
Speeds and feeds override controls will be included for free in our new software!
Over the past few months, we’ve heard a lot of folks ask about our new software, and to be honest, there’s a ton to cover! We’ve completely redesigned the user interface and added a number of great improvements, like automatic material probing, a new tool library, and speeds and feeds override, to name just a few. We’ve also rolled out a subscription plan for pro users, which some of these new features fall under. If you’re looking for a detailed overview, be sure to check out this video. In a nutshell, though, our new free software is packed with all of the important features you need to run your machine, and then some. The subscription plan is aimed at folks using the machine in a business setting where every minute counts.
During this time, in particular, we’ve listened to the community's concern about speeds and feeds override being tied to a subscription plan. We thought about it, discussed this suggestion in depth, and we agree. Speeds and feeds override will no longer be tied to a subscription and will be a standard feature in our free software package.
For a bit of backstory, in our earlier testing, we felt that for this class of machine, the speeds and feeds override feature wouldn’t be relied upon as much by novice users as it would by our pro users. However, in recent tests, and as we get closer to publishing a full set of speeds and feeds recipes, we’ve noticed a few things that have shifted our thinking.
Experienced machinists know when a machine is cutting at the right speeds and feeds just by the sound the machine makes. The sound of a cut can be tied to lots of factors—material, end mill, tool length and stick out, fixturing, toolpath, etc. The difference between even a few percentage points of spindle speed can make a cut that sounded bad sound great. We want all of our users to have this crucial control at all times. This will allow our users to dial in speeds and feeds and learn how to make every cut sound great.
Speeds and feeds override is simple. Once you begin a job, you can adjust the feed rate or spindle speed override sliders to your desired percentage of the programmed speed and feed. At the next line of G-code, the speed or feed override will take effect. Wildly changing these values can have adverse effects, since you’re essentially drastically changing the chip load on the cutting tool, so care should be taken. Note that this feature will be unlocked in the next release of our software following 2.2.6, later this month.
